Parents-
Below are some important updates regarding the wearing of masks in SCPS buildings during school hours and athletic events, as well as updated COVID-19 Protocols. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Beginning on Monday, Jan. 24th, the following policies are in places for SCPS Students regarding the wearing of masks
- The wearing of masks during the school day and while on the bench and in locker rooms for athletic practices and games will be "highly recommended" for all students and athletes. A reminder that with contact tracing, if a student or athlete is not wearing a mask, they will use 6 feet of close contact for contact tracing, instead of 3 feet (if wearing a mask)
- All SCPS Employees including coaches MUST continue to wear a mask at all times.
- The only time SCPS students and athletes MUST continue to wear a mask is while traveling on a bus or in school transportation. Please make sure your student athlete continues to carry a mask for away games
- We are also working with other Bull Run District schools to find out the protocol that will be required for visiting teams. I do know at Rappahannock Co for tomorrow night's girls away game, spectators are still required to wear a mask
- Spectators at SCPS athletics events will be "highly recommended" to wear a mask at indoor events.
Updated COVID-19 Protocols for SCPS
- The days of quarantine will be reduced to 5 days.
- After 5 days, students/staff who are isolated due to testing positive or close exposure may return as long as they are symptom and fever free; masks must be worn at all times (including PE and during sports) for 5 days after their return from isolation.
- If your athlete has been quarantined due to close exposure or has tested positive, once they return on days 6-10, in order to participate in athletics during those days, they MUST wear a mask at ALL times, including during participation in practices and games. If parents do not want to let their athlete wear the mask while participating, they will have to remain out of athletics until after the 10th day.
- Contact tracing will continue as well at this time.

There has also been an update to vaccination status. What I was told yesterday is you are only considered fully vaccinated and able to be excluded from quarantine if you have received the full series of Moderna or Pfizer within the past 5 months, received a dose of J&J in the past 2 months, or received a booster, if eligible. The initial series takes 2 full weeks (14 days) before being considered effective and eligible to be excluded from quarantine. We are waiting for clarification on if there is any wait time after boosters.
Unvaccinated individuals are excluded from quarantine if they have had COVID in the last 90 days.
If well members of a household are unable to separate from a COVID positive member, an extended quarantine may be warranted. This will include 5 days for the COVID positive member's potentially infectious period, and then an additional 5 days for the well member's potentially infectious period.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or our school nurse, Sydney Martin.
